| I've always been fascinated with racing cars. I like Indy, CART, Formula 1, and sports car racing. Like many guys, I've fantasized about doing it myself. Several years ago, I met Dr. Jack Miller at the ADA meeting in Orlando. He was a dentist driving an Indy car at the time sponsored by Crest. I told him about my interest, and his advice was simple. Just get started. He recommended attending some of the racing schools. It took me a while to get around to it, but I finally did. In 2001 I had my first racecar experience. I did the "Rookie Experience" at Richard Petty's school in Orlando at Walt Disney World Speedway. This wasn't really a school. It was more of a taste of what it's like to be in a racecar. I got to drive a 640 HP NASCAR for 10 laps. I'm not really a NASCAR fan... but, hey... a fast car is a fast car! In 2002, I attended Skip Barber's 3-day Racing School. This is a serious racing school intended to train drivers for actual competitive racing. Many of today's famous drivers started with "Skippy School." This was an intense three days spent in classroom and on the track driving a Formula Dodge car. In 2004, I attended Skip Barber's 2-day Advanced Racing School. This was the next step towards a racing license. After this I qualify to race in the Skip Barber series. At age 41, I qualify for the "seniors" series! Ugh! I haven't done a Skippy race yet, but I may try it in the near future. I also
regularly participate in HPDE (High Performance Drivers Education) events with
local car clubs at various tracks in south Florida. |
